Responsibilities

  • Direct theatrical productions from auditions through performances.
  • Develop and communicate a clear artistic vision for each production.
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate, and high-quality theatrical experiences.
  • Teach acting principles, character development, storytelling, stage presence, audition skills, and rehearsal techniques throughout the production process.
  • Collaborate closely with choreographers, music directors, technical staff, and academy leadership.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will possess:

  • Directing experience in educational, community, collegiate, or professional theatre in no less than 2 major productions.
  • Strong understanding of and formal education in acting techniques and actor development.
  • Experience leading productions from auditions through performances.
  • Experience working with children, teens, and young adults.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively as part of a creative team.
  • A commitment to maintaining high artistic standards while fostering student growth.

Our productions range from children’s theatre and junior productions to full-scale youth, high school, and community theatre productions. Because each production has unique artistic and educational needs, we are interested in building relationships with choreographers who bring a variety of styles, specialties, and teaching approaches.

We believe choreography is more than teaching steps. Great choreographers help performers tell stories through movement, develop confidence, understand character, and strengthen their stage presence.

Choreographers are hired on a per-production basis and receive a production stipend.
